Gwaenysgor community choir

With around 30 members, the Gwaenysgor Community Choir continues to grow from strength-to-strength. New residents have found the choir to be an excellent way of making new friends in the village.

Our remit is singing for enjoyment rather than performing. Preparation for performances takes time, so they’re few and far between. However, we’re very happy to perform for local organisations.

We take members from 11 years old to 70+ and membership is not limited to Gwaenysgor residents. The Choir meets in Gwaenysgor Village Hall every Tuesday 6.30pm–8pm and provides a wonderful opportunity to create music in a friendly group. It’s a lot of fun!

We’re led by Jamie Dawes-Hughes who is passionate about celebrating the voice you were born with, rather than trying to train it to an ideal of perfection. It’s about building a non-judgmental community who sing together, welcoming all voices into a group without audition and working to make a group sound. It’s also about making learning by ear accessible to the whole group so that nobody needs to be able to read music.
